Sales and Estimating
We have welcomed several new people into our T.W. Ellis Design/Build family this year, and we are excited to introduce them to you. Linda Quelet (pronounced Q-lay) joined us March 2 as a salesperson and estimator. She is already very busy meeting with customers who have contacted us this year about their projects.
After graduating from the University of Maryland, Linda practiced as a dental hygienist for 12 years. In this period of time she gradually came to realize that her heart’s desire was in real estate. She began to pursue a career in this field, making her first step in this direction by working for an auction company. Later she started her own home renovation business, hiring the crews and the sub-contractors herself, while serving as designer/project manager. Over the span of four years, Linda renovated 22 houses top to bottom, taking the houses down to the studs many times. She designed over 22 kitchens and 40 or more bathrooms.
However, the uncertainties of the remodeling market piqued Linda’s interest in finding a more stable position than self-employment. While attending a remodeling convention, she learned about T.W. Ellis Design/Build and was attracted by what she saw in our company. She sent in her resume and began discussing with us the possibilities joining our company.
“After researching the company, I was very impressed with T.W. Ellis’ reputation and their work,” Linda said. “I heard they are very professional and have a large team of in-house employees, rather than sub-contractors. I learned that T.W. Ellis hires project managers who visit all their projects on a regular basis, so clients will know their jobs are running smoothly. All this—plus the fact that T.W. Ellis is located in Forest Hill and I’m close by in Bel Air—helped me decide to join the company.”
Since Linda began working for T.W. Ellis, she has been doing sales and estimating for our company. We have lots of leads for her to contact—many from our home shows—so Linda has not had to make any cold calls. Her standard procedure is to call the client, make an appointment, and then sit down and discuss their needs and desires for their home until she is certain that she knows what they want. Then she measures everything and returns to the office to do the estimating. Once Linda has all the numbers together, she works with a cabinet maker who completes the cabinet drawings. Then Linda presents the proposal and contract to the client. She really enjoys this entire process, since she loves meeting with people and helping them get what they truly want out of their home.
“I work hard to find out what the client really desires and then I show them how we can provide that for them,” Linda says. “If they are hoping for a media room or a gym in their basement, I encourage them to go for it. When the project is complete, I’m just so pleased and proud of how it looks. It is very satisfying to help transform a boring space into something beautiful and useful.”
Outside of work, Linda likes to spend time with her son and daughter, both of whom are married. Happily, her son lives close by in Bel Air, but she also enjoys traveling to visit her daughter and granddaughter in California. Linda loves to stay active and some of her favorite activities are snow skiing and spending time at the beach. She walks a lot to stay physically fit and also belongs to a gym. She is a HUGE Ravens and Orioles fan and Sundays will usually find her cheering on her team.
